Montreal Masters: Benoit Paire and Stan Wawrinka into doubles quarterfinal

France's Benoit Paire and Swiss Stan Wawrinka upset French Open runners-up Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies to reach the Montreal Masters quarterfinal.

Paire and Wawrinka needed an hour of 15 minutes of play to overcome the German duo 6-3 3-6 10-8.

Paire and Wawrinka claimed the first break of the match in the fourth game and then held on to their serve to win the opener.

Krawietz and Mies blew an early second set break but made no mistake on their serve after claiming the second break in the eighth game to force a decider.

Despite losing the second set and falling 5-2 down in the match tie-break, Paire and Wawrinka kept their focus as they eight of the following 10 points to earn the win.

Paire and Wawrinka will battle against India's Rohan Bopanna and home favorite Denis Shapovalov for a place in the Montreal semifinal.

Meanwhile, Andrey Rublev and Alexander Zverev's campaign came to an end in the quarterfinal following a loss suffered to Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos.

Spain's Granollers and Zeballos of Argentina handed a straight-set defeat to Rublev and Zverev 6-4 6-4 to become the first team to progress into the semifinal.

Granollers and Zeballos suffered the first break of the match but didn't panic as they broke Rublev and Zverev twice to win the opening set.

There was no way back for Rublev and Zverev after falling down by an early break in the second set as Granollers and Zeballos booked the win in just over an hour of action.
