Paolo Lorenzi Scores 400th Match Win on ATP Challenger Tour
Tennis - Italian veteran Paolo Lorenzi has scored his 400th match win on the ATP Challenger Tour, becoming only the second player to achieve the feat on the Challenger circuit.
37-year-old Lorenzi scored a 1-6, 7-5, 6-4 win over Sadio Doumbia to reach the semi-finals of the Internazionali di Manerbio Trofeo. The Italian, who is the top seed at the clay-court event, needed 2 hours and 12 minutes to win the match and will meet Russian Teymuraz Gabashvili, who beat seventh seed Andrea Arnaboldi 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 in the semi-finals, which lasted two hours and 45 minutes. Lorenzi has won 21 ATP Challenger Tour titles so far.
In the other quarter-finals, Federico Coria defeated Hungarian youngster Zsombor Piros 6-4, 6-4 and will meet Federico Gaio, who advanced when Italian Lorenzo Giustino retired down 2-4 in the first set due to a right elbow injury.
Lorenzi is currently ranked No. 126 in the world but has been ranked as high as No. 33 in the past (May 2017). He has reached the second round at all the Grand Slams but has also reached the fourth round at the US Open in 2017. He has also won 1 ATP singles title and 1 ATP doubles title. He has reached 40 finals on the ATP Challenger/ ITF Pro Circuit Tour - winning 21 ATP Challenger titles and 4 ITF singles titles.
His last title on the ATP Challenger circuit in Cordenons, Italy, when he beat Máté Valkusz in three sets in the final. His first title on the ATP Tour came with a win over Nikoloz Basilashvili at the Generali Open Kitzbühel at the age of 34.
