Rafael Nadal hopeful he and Roger Federer reach US Open final
In an interview with Eurosport, Rafael Nadal commented on how it felt to have never faced Roger Federer so far at the US Open. They have faced each other many times in multiple tournaments, but never in New York. "Every year it's more complicated that it happens. It's a shame but we have to try to reach the final. I will do as much as possible and I am sure he will do it too," said Nadal.
The 32-year-old loves competing in the US Open: "It's a tournament that gives me a lot of energy. Here the crowd is very passionate and I always had a great connection with this court and the people. I feel comfortable playing here, I like it and over the last years I was always able to play well. I have good feelings but we know it's a tough tournament and you have to go step by step starting by John Millman in the first round that is an uncomfortable opponent, but I hope to get there well and be competitive. In Montreal, I improved, which was important after the break I had from Wimbledon. You always struggle in starting again. I won the first matches and then I played a great final. I had an active week off training. I feel well prepared."
Federer and Nadal have been drawn in the opposite sides of the draw. Federer who is seeded third was drawn in Djokovic's half. In 2017, Federer lost to Juan Martin del Potro in the quarter-final. Had he won that match, Federer would have played Nadal in the semi-final of the US Open that year. The Spaniard won his third US Open title that year, beating Kevin Anderson in the final.
