ATP is the only authority that can punish Nick Kyrgios, says Lopez

In an interview, Feliciano Lopez spoke about Nick Kyrgios's antics. The Australian player could be banned for 16 weeks if he gets a code violation during matches in the next six months. "I think you have to punish Kyrgios when he behaves badly, but you also have to enjoy him when he plays well. ATP is the authority that has to punish Kyrgios."

Asked if he sees tennis in a different way at 38 years of age, Lopez replied: "Yeah, I see life in general, in another way. After almost 20 years playing you are able to see things in a different way. I think a tennis player, once he overcame the 30s he can always improve. Before, you thought that you could only do it when you were young and over the last years of your career improving things were tough, but now it's the contrary. In tennis, you get to know yourself better and you know what are your qualities and what they are not. How to play tactically and develop your potential. In my case, it was like this. Now I play more different tennis than when I was younger and I always believe I can improve."

On 2019 overall, Lopez concluded: "That's life, it surprises you and possibly this year is being the best in my life. I won one of the most special tournaments (Queen's). I got married. I made my debut as the Mutua Madrid Open Tournament Director. It was many new things but definitely the best one until now."
