Roger Federer is able to cancel certain ATP rules, says Boutter
The Moselle Open tournament director Julien Boutter commented on Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal coming back on the Player Council. Boutter believes that the 20-time Grand Slam winner has a huge power as he convinced the ATP to join forces with the Laver Cup. "That Roger and Rafa are on the Council, it's not so good. We know the trend and the Swiss showed of being able to cancel certain rules. For Rafa, I do not know, I know him less", said Boutter.
On the Laver Cup format, Boutter added: "Before comparing the tournaments we should play on the same category. Laver Cup is a very nice exhibition, you cannot deny it. We see things we had never seen, but it's not the product we look at on TV, taking photos here and there. What bothered me the most is that ATP gives it an even bigger popularity, we spoke with the ATP Board and the 90 percent of people thought the same as me."
Asked how he sees this event ahead of the future, Leconte replied: "Laver Cup will become even crazier because it can go anywhere. That's the only event that reunites all the playerw over three days and not more than one week or two. It's a fast, exciting and different format. Apart some Grand Slams and Laver Cup, that was attended by 17,000 fans a day over three days, there are not many people coming to see matches. We see it in France. We lose some younger guys because it's a long, complicated and busy sport."
