Kim Clijsters still hits the ball so unbelievably pure, says Stubbs

The former world No. 1 doubles player Rennae Stubbs spoke about Kim Clijsters coming back to compete on the WTA Tour. The American was not surprised in some ways by the Belgian's announcement. Stubbs said: “She was returning the ball unbelievably against Jim Courier’s serve. She still hits the ball so unbelievably pure. She still serves well, moves great. She just has to get into a little bit better shape, but that will come in a couple months. She’ll be back fully in shape. But her movement is still unbelievable, so look out….I have no doubt that she will win matches, there’s no doubt in my mind.”

Stubbs added: “I think the most important thing is to stay healthy. Obviously, she’s got to get a little bit more in shape, she’d be the first one to tell you that. But that’s what the next three or fourth months will be, it will be getting yourself into really good shape. She still moves unbelievably well. Obviously I’ve played with her and against her in some exhibition stuff and I know it’s not the same, but you still see how somebody moves and how they react to things. That’s all still there.”

Analyzing the reasons why Clijsters took this decision, Stubbs said: “I think it’s possible that it’s certainly given her the impetus to think, ‘Why can’t I have one or two good years?" She’s 36 so she probably feels like she has one or two really good years left in her….She also knows her own body and she also knows how well she can still hit the ball.”
