Roger Federer needs to be tested before facing Rafael Nadal, says Wilander

Mats Wilander commented on Roger Federer's straight-set win over David Goffin. The former world No. 1 said: "Goffin is a good ball striker when he is playing well. He is not looking to move forward at nearly any time. He has to hit the ball so clean, that's his only chance. He doesn't come to the net. I thought a couple of days ago he was becoming more aggressive. I think he may have too much respect for Roger. The first ten minutes Goffin looked okay. Then as soon as Federer is ahead, when Novak, Roger and Rafa - once they are up a set - it's very difficult to catch them. Goffin had a flat day.

Federer loves the day conditions, the ball takes the spin, it gets a bit more power on the serve. He had also faced Dan Evans at day. Goffin needed slower conditions, he did not spin the ball as much as Roger, in every rally Federer did exactly what he wants. It's good that Federer is saving energy but at some point somebody needs to pull off some consistency, he needs to be tested at some point before facing Novak Djokovic and Rafa Nadal."

On Ashleigh Barty's loss to Qiang Wang, Wilander concluded: "She struggled on the slice backhand, it's inconsistent. Wang was solid, she reminds me a lot of Li Na. But Barty needs to figure out what to do with the backhand. She needs to come forward with that slice in order to put some pressure. Is it the pressure of being world No. 1 and 2? Ok she has reached the fourth round but she did not seem interested at solving the problem."
