Alex de Minaur: Basel has already been a hell of an experience
Rising Australian tennis star Alex de Minaur is absolutely enjoying his debut album at the Swiss Indoors Basel as he hopes to capture his fourth title of the season at the Swiss ATP 500 event.
De Minaur, ranked at No. 28 in the world, edged out fellow rising star Reilly Opelka 7-6 (2) 6-7 (4) 7-6 (3) in a tense semifinal which lasted just over two and a half hours of play.
The 20-year-old Australian entered the Basel event at the last moment as he accepted a wildcard into the tournament.
"I can’t wait. It’s my first time here in Basel and it’s been a hell of an experience," de Minaur said after beating Opelka, per the ATP website. "I’ve got my friends with me, so it’s a little bit different and it’s been paying off. I’m really looking forward to coming out tomorrow and having some fun."
De Minaur will have to pull off a shock win against home favorite and record nine-time Basel champion Roger Federer in order to win this year's Basel title.
