Rising Canadian star Felix Auger-Aliassime says he feels disappointed for having to withdraw late from the Erste Bank Open 500 in Vienna.
On Wednesday -- just before his first round match at the tournament against fellow rising star Andrey Rublev -- the Canadian pulled out of the event due to an ankle injury he sustained at a practice a day earlier.
Auger-Aliassime, ranked at No. 18 in the world, had been hoping to make a deep run in Vienna this year and make amends for his disappointing last year's debut which ended with a first round loss.
"Sadly, I won’t be able to play my first round match at the Erste Bank Open today. I unfortunately hurt my left ankle at practice yesterday. Will keep you updated on how my recovery is going. Thanks everyone for your continuous support," Auger-Aliassime announced via his Twitter account.
A couple of hours after his Vienna withdrawal, the 19-year-old Canadian also pulled out of next week's Paris Masters.
