Karen Khachanov named as king of the year by GQ Russia
Karen Khachanov was named as king of the year by GQ Russia. The 23-year-old cracked the top ten rankings for the first time this year after reaching the French Open quarter-finals. Last year he won his maiden Masters 1000 title in Paris defeating Novak Djokovic in a straight-set final.
Yoshihito Nishioka lost to Lucas Pouille. The Japanese reflected on his loss to the Frenchman. They had last faced each other in 2016. "It was a long time ago and both of us changed," said Nishioka.
The Chengdu Open Tournament Director spoke about Grigor Dimitrov's comeback to a good level: "I always believed he would have turned his season around, it was a matter of time because the way he plays is amazing. It was tricky because once the list came out, his ranking dropped, he did not make the cut, then we gave him a wild card... He is a good player to sell tickets in China, I did not know he had so many fans in Chengdu. He has a great personality, a good ambassador of the sport."
Dimitrov lost in the semi-finals in Chengdu to Alexander Bublik. In the China Open in Beijing that is ongoing currently, he lost in the pre-quarter-finals to Andrey Rublev. Rublev and Khachanov who are good friends are playing doubles in Beijing. They reached the semi-finals with a win over Alexander Zverev and John Isner on Wednesday. Khachanov will be playing the men's singles quarter-finals in Beijing against Fabio Fognini. The Italian defeated Rublev in their round-of-16 match on Wednesday.
