Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer would be the best coaches - Dominic Thiem

In an interview to Red Bull Dominic Thiem reflected on how it felt like to play the Laver Cup in Geneva, Switzerland, with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal for Team Europe. The Austrian said: "It is a unique event and the chemistry in the whole team was unbelievable. The guys are all great and we had a great time on and off the court. Of course, it is a great experience for us to spend so much time with each other, especially privately as well."

Thiem got multiple advices from the Swiss and the Spaniard both on and off the court. "They would make probably the best coaches because they have such a big knowledge of tennis - it is insane. They always coached me in the breaks to give advice and it was only good advice. Of course, they would make great coaches but who knows if they want to do it.

Asked if we may see new Grand Slam winners in 2020, Thiem said: "If you ask me now, I think there will be yes. I think we did a great job in every tournament. The 'big three' still took the Slams this year, but I think next year will be the year where there is a big change. I hope one or two Grand Slams will be won by the young players."

Thiem defeated the Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in straight sets, 6-4 7-6(2) to reach the second round in Vienna. He will face the Spaniard Fernando Verdasco on Thursday.
