Roger Federer: 'I love watching big servers like Reilly Opelka'
In an interview Roger Federer defended big servers from criticism. The Swiss praised the American Reilly Opelka who played a marathon match against Alex De Minaur on Saturday in the semifinals. "I love them and I like watching them", said Federer. "It's like a penalty kick. You ask yourself on every serve if he will hit an ace. Tournament Directors probably have nightmares because they can beat all the opponent. But as I said, I like and respect them. Opelka is not just about his serve. He showed it in the semis. He really impressed me against Alex. In the end I almost helped him because I like those matches between two completely players."
De Minaur, before the final, said: "It's very exciting to face Roger. Probably there is nothing bigger than competing against Roger in Basel. It will be a different match than the semis. Those matches can help you improve and I am sure Lleyton will contact me before the final."
Analyzing his semifinals win over Stefanos Tsitsipas, Federer said: "I had a very strong start. I was able to win important and nice points on Stefanos's serve, which gave me confidence. I was finally able to break on the first set and do it again on the second. There are still some ups and down this year, but he can be very dangerous. He is one of the fastest guys on tour. His semifinal impressed me."
Federer will now play in Paris.
