Schwartzman: 'Roger Federer, Nadal and Djokovic are above us'
In an interview Diego Schwartzman commented on the difficulties in facing Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. The Argentinean player said: "The Big Three is the obstacle we have to go through, they are the best ever. They are above us. There are good players but they are the best and most consistent."
On the new Davis Cup format, Schwartzman concluded: "I will play it, it will be something amazing. A unique tournament with a new format. I imagine it will be fun. I am confident."
Schwartzman recalled when he lost 6-0 6-0 to Marcos Baghdatis in 2016 Houston: "It was very difficult because besides the result many things happened. It's never nice to lose like that, it's the worst thing it can ever happen. In the end, I thought it was something good. I even cried in the locker room. That was the only time that happened to me. After that loss, I split with my coach Sebastian Prieto. He teached me a lot. Now what I do is thank to him, but at the time splitting after a five-year co-operation it was tough."
On his relationship with the former football player Riquelme, Schwartzman added: "He loves Boca. He likes a lot asking tennis things about Nadal, Federer. But only after eating meat. We could speak even until 6:00 AM."
On the Argentinean umpire Damian Steiner being fired up from ATP, Schwartzman concluded: "I was surprised and it was rare that no one from the Association had spoken of it. He is a very good umpire, he showed it."
