In an interview the Brest Challenger Tournament Director Nicolas Escude spoke about the event that between 1988 and 2002 featured the likes of the 20-time Grand Slam winner  Roger Federer and amazing players like Patrick Rafter, Richard Krajicek, Andrei Chesnokov as well as the Frenchmen Henri Leconte, Cédric Pioline, Sébastien Grosjean and Paul-Henri Mathieu. He added: "I am fully committed in this project. It's an unbelievable possibility. The great matches that took place over the years made me keep having the desire to run the tournament. We have disagrements some times but we keep going whatever happens. When I am here I watch matches and I do not have too much time to visit the city."
