Tatiana Golovin Loses Second Match in Comeback
French tennis star Tatiana Golovin has lost the second match of her comeback - at the ITF $80K event in Poitiers, France.
The former World No. 12 came back to the tour after more than a decade due to injuries and having a family and in her first tournament back, she lost to Slovakian Kaja Juvan in the first round of qualifying at the WTA event in Luxembourg in straight sets.
In her second tournament back, Golovin was beaten by German Antonia Lottner 0-6, 1-6 in Poitiers, France. She entered the main draw with the help of a wild card. Lottner is ranked No. 165 in the world currently and needed less than an hour to win the match.
During her first stint, Golovin peaked at No. 12 in the singles rankings and reached the quarter-finals of the 2006 US Open where she lost to eventual champion Maria Sharapova. She also won the French Open mixed doubles event with Richard Gasquet in 2004. She retired at the young age of 20 due to a lower back injury and did not come back until last month when she said she wanted to try and play once again to make sure she did not have any regrets later about not trying a comeback.
Golovin has said that she wants to play the Fed Cup, Olympics and French Open next year. She will have to continue playing on the lower circuit of the ITF Tour in order to build her ranking before she can play the more prestigious tournaments. As per current rules, she is allowed only a limited number of wild cards.
