Thomas Fabbiano trains with Federer: 'Roger is a great man'
The Italian player Thomas Fabbiano was invited by Roger Federer to train with him in Zurich. Fabbiano had already practiced with the 20-time Grand Slam winner in Dubai in December 2017.
Fabbiano also said that Federer is recovering well from his Wimbledon final loss. "Those have been intense and emotional days. It was a honour to be with a champion who wrote the history of the sport. We had some good training sessions with some big intensity. He showed to be very fit ahead of the American swing and I think he will do a good job. He is a great man before being a great player. He even gave me advices that I will bring inside myself for my entire career", said Fabbiano.
The Paris Masters Tournament Director Guy Forget spoke about Federer possibly playing: "Anxiety is a big word. I am not in a status of excitement. When you look at players like Rafa, Novak Djokovic, Zverev who all came here... All the best players in the world are there, expect the ones competing in Basel and Vienna. Roger lost just five games (in the first two rounds) and took advantage of Stan Wawrinka's retirement. So he is fully fit and I stay confident. We stay optimistic." Forget also shared why this year's Paris Masters will be interesting: "It will be an exciting year because many things can happen: there is the first rankings position, the last two places for London, Davis Cup is coming up and so the French players will want to gain confidence, the new generation that finally breaks through making huge upsets."
