Australian Sam Groth reflects on his country's week at Davis Cup Finals

Former Australian tennis player Sam Groth was satisfied with the way his country performed at the inaugural Davis Cup Finals despite failing to win it all. 

Australia cruised past the Round Robin stage with wins over Colombia and Belogum, before they fell just short of beating Canada and making the semifinals. 

Unfortunately for the Australians, six-time ATP champion Nick Kyrgios -- who won his two singles matches in the Round Robin stage -- was unavailable for the Canada tie due to an injury. 

John Millman lost to Vasek Pospisil in the opening rubber of the tie but Alex de Minaur came up big in the following rubber to beat Denis Shapovalov and force a decisive rubber. 

Yet, Australia failed to complete a comeback as Jordan Thompson and John Peers suffered a straight-set loss to Pospisil and Shapovalov in the decisive rubber. 

"How good was Alex DeMinaur?! Two huge wins over higher ranked opponents," Groth wrote on Twitter. "Nick showed that he can stay composed both mentally and with his game. Millman gave everything when he probably wasn’t expecting to play, and had his chances but ran into a red hot opponent. Doubs team beat the (Colombian) world No. 1 team (Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah). Disappointing now, but plenty of positives for the guys as we head towards a huge Aussie Summer!"
