Conchita Martinez rejoins Garbine Muguruza Team for 2020

Former World No. 1 Garbine Muguruza, of Spain, has announced that she will work once again with Conchita Martinez next season.

Muguruza split from Sam Sumyk earlier this year, after which she worked with Anabel Medina Garrigues for a trial period She has already worked with Martinez in the past - in 2017 and 2018 - during which she won the Wimbledon singles title in 2017. Martinez also worked with Muguruza as part of her role as captain of the Spanish Fed Cup team.

The 26-year-old Muguruza is currently ranked No. 35 in the world, dropping from No. 18 at the start of the year, and posted a 22-16 record in 2019 - wining 1 WTA tour title. So far in her career, she has won 7 WTA tour titles and nearly $20 million in prize money.

In the second half of this season - Muguruza struggled - winning only 1 match in six tournaments since the French Open. Muguruza won the French Open in 2016 and Wimbledon in 2017 but has since advanced past the fourth round at the Slams only on one occasion.

Martinez is a former Wimbledon champion, wininng the singles title in 1994 over the nine-time Wimbledon champion Martina Navratilova.  She has also coached Karolina Pliskova, who announced after the WTA Finals this year that the pair would not be renewing their partnership next season.

Muguruza spent some part of her off-season scaling the heights of Mount Kilimanjaro and will be hoping her partnership with Martinez will bring back her winning form.
