Kei Nishikori gives update on his troublesome right elbow

Japanese tennis star Kei Nishikori reveals his elbow is far away from being at 100 percent but he hopes he will be ready for the beginning of the new season and won't be forced to miss the Australian Open. 

Nishikori, ranked at No. 13 in the world, last played at the US Open, where he was beaten in the third round by rising Australian star Alex de Minaur. 

The Japanese then pulled out of the Asian swing to treat an elbow injury but remained hopeful that he would play a few more events in Europe in late October.  

Unfortunately, the 2014 US Open runner-up returning to action in Europe wasn't the case as the 29-year-old also withdrew from Vienna and Paris to undergo an elbow surgery. 

"My right elbow is still at 20 or 30 percent, I can't bend it completely. Have started hitting a sponge ball. Hopefully it will be ready for play by the Australian Open," Nishikori said, per Seiadoumogera/Twitter.

Former world No. 4 Nishikori will turn 30 years at the end of December.

"Approaching my thirties, I fear getting old a bit, but it has not hit me yet indeed," Nishikori said.
