Diego Schwartzman to fight against Dominic Thiem in Buenos Aires

The Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club will host the ATP 250 event for the 20th consecutive year between February 10-16, 2020, gathering excellent clay courters who will battle for the title in the second stop of the Latin American "Golden Swing" after Cordoba. Gustavo Kuerten, Carlos Moya, Guillermo Coria, Gaston Gaudio, David Nalbandian, Tommy Robredo, Juan Carlos Ferrero, David Ferrer and Rafael Nadal had all won the title here in the past, joined by Dominic Thiem who went all the way in 2016 and 2018. This February, Dominic Thiem, Diego Schwartzman, Guido Pella and Marco Cecchinato reached the semi-final and it was the Italian who grabbed the title after beating tired Schwartzman who battled for two and a half hours against Thiem on the previous day.

After Thiem, the second confirmed player for 2020 edition is Diego Schwartzman himself, making his tenth consecutive trip to the home event and hoping to go one step further than this year. World no. 14 claimed 40 ATP wins in 2019, competing in the final in Buenos Aires and the semi-final in Rome before lifting the trophy in Los Cabos for his first success on hard. The Argentine was the quarter-finalist at the US Open and the finalist in Vienna, playing on a high note on the most common surface and hoping to revive his clay-court magic during the South American swing in two and a half months.

Diego also had the opportunity to defend the national colors at the Davis Cup Finals in Madrid last week, defeating Cristian Garin in straight sets before losing to Jan-Lennard Struff in the second round-robin clash. Argentina reached the quarters but Spain proved to be too strong there, with Schwartzman losing to Rafael Nadal 6-1, 6-2 after winning only 27 points.
