In a press conference the Paris Masters Tournament Director Guy Forget spoke about the upcoming championship clash between Novak Djokovic and Denis Shapovalov. Forget said: "I am convinced the final will be a very high level one. We would like to see the oldest guys until 35, 40, even 45 years, but we need to see the next generation and Shapovalov is part of it."
On what suggestions he gave Nadal in order not to get injured again in Bercy, Forget added: "I told him to be back in the same hotel where he stays in May. But it's the end of the season and we know that every part of the body hurts - foot, knee, hand, abdominal, he had a ton of injuries. If he did not have those issues, he would have probably broken Roger Federer's Grand Slam titles record as his motivation and excitement are still there. He still trains with the same passion. Unfortunately his body falls down."
Through his official Twitter account the former world No. 1 Andy Roddick spoke about Gerard Pique planning to hold a two-week Davis Cup involving 24 teams. The American suggested the calendar is too packed: "We should definitely keep adding weeks to the calendar. Has proven to be super easy in the past. Definitely not a problem that’s existed for 25 years."
Pique said: "It is a long-term project. It's the tennis world cup and the idea is, over time, to go to a two-week competition and 24 teams."
Asked if he tried to bring Roger Federer, Pique replied: "First we talked with his agent about the possibility of Switzerland [playing] in 2020. He said he would send a formal letter to Roger. They sent us the letter and we were surprised by its contents. They see the Davis Cup as a little competition compared to his competition. I don't know if he will play in the Davis Cup one day, but we are delighted with all the players who do come to it."
