Rafael Nadal is having a long career unlike some people thought - Toni

In a column for El Pais Rafael Nadal's uncle Toni praised his nephew's longevity.

The 58-year-old Manacor native said: "Ten years ago, more or less, a journalist described Rafael as a forme player, without that he had announced something like this. He was just sidelined with an injury. But at the time some people were saying Rafael would have a short career. I was like, Hopefully they are wrong. We will see what happens. Ending the year as a world No. 1 is something satisfaying although he has not reached the semifinals. It was a shame that first match against Alexander Zverev, where he did not find enough confidence to face the match. Other times Rafael headed into a major tournament coming from an injury and showed to be able to get his competitive level back and even win the title. But now he faced to players since the beginning. Rafael kept that fighting spirit that made him stand out over all those years. He came back against Daniil Medvedev in an amazing way, even in the match against Stefanos Tsitsipas going through tense moments. This year's tournament showed that there is a mixture of past, present and future tennis. Federer's match win over Djokovic was beautiful and enabled the Swiss to take a revenge. Once again, next year there will be a lot of fight and great spirit to win."

Roger Federer spoke about how it feels to be in Chile: "I am very happy to be in Chile, a nice country surrounded by the mountains. I am thinking that they may be even better than Switzerland. Also, you have kilometres of beach that we do not have. I had the luck of facing three Chilean legends and I am grateful to them."
