Roger Federer: 'Who cares if I am ranked 3, 5, 9?'

For Roger Federer the rankings are no longer a priority. The Swiss is world No. 3, last year he became the oldest world No. 1 in the Open era but speaking at the ATP Finals in London, he said his schedule doesn't depend on rankings. "Who cares? Who cares if I'm ranked 3, 5, 9? If I feel like I'm 100% fit, then I feel like I have a chance to win the tournament", said Federer. "But if I don't feel that way but I'm ranked 1 or 3 or 5, whatever it may be, I know it's going to be extremely more difficult and sometimes almost impossible, even though I feel like if I'm in a draw, usually I always give myself a chance. So rankings is not the priority unless it's battling for World No. 1, to be quite honest. But of course it can help that you might not play a certain guy earlier, but at the end of the day, I anyway feel like at one point you've got to beat them probably anyways. So it doesn't matter if I play them in the semis, finals, or quarters or fourth round. Not really, actually, at the end of the day."

Matteo Berrettini was asked how it felt to attend ATP University last year: "It was helpful because they brought me here. Yeah, it's crazy to think about that, because I saw the guys in the hotel. They're doing the same thing. Yeah, we studied a little bit. It's not something we normally do during the year. We had the chance to meet -- help me, guys. The coach of Zverev? Lendl, sorry. My bad. So it was really helpful. They brought us here. We had chance to know, like, some players better, because normally we are on the tour but we don't spend so much time -- you know, we don't hang out too much. We hang out with our team, maybe Italian friends. So it was a nice experience. I think it's going to be helpful for also the rest of the players."
