Daniil Medvedev doesn't drink vodka, at least in front of me - Coach
In an interview with WeLove Tennis, Daniil Medvedev's coach Gilles Cervara spoke about how he starts a coach-player relationship. Cervara said: "I try to make the player feel comfortable. Sometimes, I ask him tough questions so that he can find solutions by himself, being able to adapt and make progress where he is less good."
On Medvedev deciding not to celebrate after winning his matches at the US Open, Cervara added: "That's not really pleasant, because I think wins need to be shared, emotions need to be shown, without being arrogant. But it may be time for a change."
"I have Italian and Polish origins. So I am not that far away from Russia. On the other side, I do not speak Russian, which is a bit silly since I spend time with many Russian players and I spend 98 per cent of my time with Daniil. I told Daniil that I could not learn the Russian now, because I do not have a lot of time, my life is busy. Learning Russian is not my priority today, but I told him that when I will have more time when I will be older, I will send him a message in Russians. It has been in my plans for a long time. On the other side, I am learning a lot about Russian culture because it can give me further information."
Russia is considered the home of vodka. They cannot celebrate wins by drinking water! "I am pretty close to Greece with raki. But Daniil doesn't drink vodka. At least not in front of me."
