Dominic Thiem to defend Vienna title in 2020

Austrian tennis star Dominic Thiem, 26, was the first player confirmed for next year's Erste Bank Open 500 in Vienna, per Michal Samulski.

Thiem, who is enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 4 in the world, finally achieved his goal of winning it all in Vienna this past October.

The Austrian was feeling pressure and nerves early on in the Vienna final but managed to get over it and claim a comeback win over Argentina's Diego Schwartzman 3-6 6-4 6-3.

Thiem had the extra motivation to do well in Vienna after claiming his maiden Generali Open title in Kitzbuhel a few months earlier.

It remains to be seen can Thiem make a splash in Vienna next year as well and defend his title at the tournament.
