'Having Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic in Cordoba would be big'

In his interview with Tennis World USA, the Cordoba Open Tournament Director Mariano Ink was asked about possibly bringing Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic in the Argentinean tournament one day. He said: "It would be a pleasure for us. We would do our ultimate effort to make it happen if it were up to us."

On the tournament overall, he added: "The first year was very good. We had 26,000 people coming to watch the matches. Huge crowd. We have a temporary venue and with the local government, we are planning to build a stadium on the same site where the event takes place. Also, make the fans enjoy some fun and eat food. We have the defending champion Juan Ignacio Londero, Diego Schwartzman, Guido Pella who are confirmed for next year's event. I also saw Nicolas Jarry and Christian Garin from Chile on the entry list. As well as Norwegian Casper Ruud. It's going well and I am sure we will have a world class of tennis."

On Dominic Thiem not committing (to the event), after withdrawing earlier this year due to an illness, he said: "We talked to him but next year the Australian Open finals end on the same day as when our tournament starts. So if he goes far and maybe plays the last match in Melbourne on Wednesday or Friday, it would be tough for him to show up in Argentina also dealing with a huge time zone difference. The same thing for Matteo Berrettini."
