Kitzbuhel TD optimistic Dominic Thiem will continue playing event regularly
Generali Open Tournament Director Alexander Antonitsch is optimistic that Kitzbuhel will remain in the schedule of top-ranked Austrian Dominic Thiem going forward.
The fact that Kitzbuhel takes place a few weeks after the grass season ends and also the week before the Cincinnati Masters doesn't help the organizers in their bid of convincing the top stars to commit to the Austrian clay-court event.
As revealed by De Nela/Twitter, Kitzbuhel Tournament Director Antonitsch told Kurier (Tennis Jahrbuch) that the Generali Open will change dates in 2021 and he hopes that will increase their chances of having Thiem at the event.
Reportedly, Kitzbuhel will be taking place the week before Hamburg European Open from 2021 onward.
This past season, the Hamburg event kicked off on July 15 a day after Wimbledon ended, while the Generali Open started on July 29.
Thiem, 26, has made eight main draw appearances at the Generali Open so far in his career.
Thiem, who finished runner-up at the Generali Open in 2014, fulfilled his dream of winning it all in Kitzbuhel this year after beating Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the final.
