Maria Sharapova Returns to Training After Pulling Out of Hawaii Openn
Tennis - Former World No. 1 tennis star Maria Sharapova is back in training after pulling out of the Hawaii Tennis Open, a few days ago
The five-times Grand Slam champion Sharapova put up a post on her social media account, saying that she was back in training on the courts after the last-minute withdrawal from the invitational only event in Hawaii, where she was replaced by local player Alyssa Tobita.
This was the second exhibition event that she was scheduled to play during the month of December. She also played the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi earlier this month, where she defeated Croatian-born Australian Ajla Tomljanovic 6-4, 7-5. .
Sharapova, who has struggled with injuries this year, has also entered the Kooyong Classic exhibition event, where she will play alongside Tomljanovic, Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki, who will retire after the Australian Open, and American Coco Vandeweghe. After Kooyong, she is scheduled to play the Australian Open in Melbourne next month. Sharapova is currently ranked No. 133 in the world and will be hoping the organizers of the Australian Open provide her a wild card to play in the Grand Slam tournament. She is a former champion in Melbourne, with one of her five Grand Slam singles titles coming here in 2008, when she beat another former World No. 1 - Serbia's Ana Ivanovic
Here is hoping the Russian remains fit enough in the coming weeks and we see her back to her fighting best on the courts in Australia.
