Nick Kyrgios: second most hated athlete of the decade
The end of the year and pre-season are filled with ‘athlete of the year/decade’ type prizes, highlighting the sportspeople with the most outstanding evolutions, behaviors, and styles, among others.
In this period of merit-based recognition, the Herald Sun decided to stand out from the mass and create its own peculiar award. Through a poll, the Australian publication asked its readers to pick the most hated athletes of the decade.
Nick Kyrgios, technically a compatriot of the Herald Sun’s readers, has been elected as second most hated athlete of the decade.
Lone tennis player in the list, Kyrgios is preceded on the ‘podium’ by South Africa’s Oscar Pistorius—former sprinter whose career and image collapsed after he was found guilty of his girlfriend’s homicide—and followed by former NFL player and now deceased Aaron Hernandez, boxers Connor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather, cricketer David Warner, swimmer Sun Yang, baseball player Alex Rodriguez, and Uruguayan soccer player Luis Suarez.
