'Roger Federer can play 14 tournaments a year. The other players...' - Kiefer
In an interview to Tennis Magazin the former German player Nicolas Kiefer spoke about how the players have managed to play for a longer time over the last years. He said: "Roger Federer is the big exception. He can play for such a long time because he is the best and because he can have breaks without making it influence his game. With him, it's enough if he plays 14 tournaments a year. Other guys need to play 25 events. I do not regret my decision. My plan was to play the 2012 London Olympic Games. In 2010 I underwent a groin injury and I did not really recover from that. I was not satisfied with being a top 100 player. I wanted to be a top 20 guy. When I could no longer do it, I stopped."
Asked which match he would like to play again, Kiefer replied: "Besides the Olympic final in Athens, it would be the semifinals against Pete Sampras in the ATP Finals Championships in 1999 in Hannover. I lost 6-3 6-4. Winning the match in my city would have been great."
Kiefer finally spoke about Alexander Zverev: "He has known what he has to work on and signing that deal with Roger's company has been good for him. Now he can focus on his tennis and he is still a top eight player remember, so he's part of the ATP Finals in London. To finish the year in the top 10 by not playing his best tennis is a great achievement. I hope he can get it together for 2020 because if I can pick a player that I think that can make it, then it would be Sascha."
