Diego Schwartzman honored to be on same group as Federer, Nadal, Thiem
In an interview Diego Schwartzman spoke about how being nominated along with Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem and Roger Federer for the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award. The Argentinean player said: "It's amazing, I first learned it on social media and then by mail through the ATP. It's a very important prize that recognizes a bit what you do off the court, not just hitting the ball, and at the US Open this year I won a prize like this. It represents the values that I try to keep on a daily basis and that they taught me. It's very nice that they recognize you for it."
Schwartzman added: "I think Dominic Thiem can win it, he showed during the year competitiveness and respect around the world, he has been having great years in his career and I think this year he had his best season. He has many chances to win it."
Schwartzman lost last year's Argentina Open final in Buenos Aires against Marco Cecchinato. On how it feels like to compete in his hometown event, he concluded: "My feelings in the tournament got better and better and I was able to enjoy playing at home even more. This year I reached the final and every year is a bit better. I hope to keep improving."
Meanwhile Vienna's Erste Bank Open Tournament Director Herwig Straka spoke about Dominic Thiem being the first player confirmed for 2020: "We had sold out sessions for five days this year. Of course, Dominic helped us a lot with his impressive streak of wins."
