Thiem: 'Federer, Nadal or Djokovic? I cannot pick'

Dominic Thiem was asked by Weekend Magazin who he thinks is the greatest player of all time. The Austrian replied: "There isn't just one in my opinion. Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are all up there."

Asked what he would do if his tennis career stopped tomorrow, Thiem replied: "I would go skiing, which I'm not allowed to do at the moment. In my professional life, I would keep working in tennis, maybe start an academy to help the young players to follow my path."

What motivates him to keep working hard and give his best? "I draw motivation from the intense preparation. It's all about winning that one specific match against one specific opponent, one specific day."

On why he split with his coach Gunter Bresnik, Thiem said: "I started thinking about it in Australia al the beginning of the year. I felt that something was wrong and that it couldn't go on this way. There were both sports and personal reasons. This isn't unusual. It's almost impossible to maintain such a relationship until the end of your career. It's a completely normal step."

Thiem was asked if he would like to have a normal life all the time: "Yes, moments like this happen. Sometimes, on Sunday afternoon. you Just want to lie on the couch and watch TV. But after my tennis career, which won't last forever, I will make up for it all. Right now, I just want to get the most out of it."
