Australian Open day 10: Rafael Nadal is out! Is it the beginning of a new era?
The beginning of a new era and a great come back: these were the main themes of action on day 10 at the Australian Open 2020, and which above all involve Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem, Alexander Zverev and Garbine Muguruza. Thiem and Zverev's respective victories against Nadal and Stan Wawrinka in the quarterfinals of the tournament seem almost like handing of the baton to the new generation. The semifinal between Thiem and Zverev may be the first of many others in the near future.
After a long period of hibernation, however, Garbine Muguruza sent signs of awakening. In the Melbourne semifinal, she will challenge Simona Halep, perhaps the favorite for the final victory of the tournament, but the come back of the Spaniard is very positive news for the WTA Tour.
At Roland Garros 2020 the entire quarterfinal schedule will take place on the Philippe Chatrier Court. It will, therefore, be possible to admire in two days all the best eight of the women's and men's singles events on the same court.
Martina Navratilova and John McEnroe protested in favor of the change of name of the Margaret Court Arena in Evonne Goolagong Arena. Tennis Australia released a statement to take a position on the episode, talking about "two high-profile characters who attempted to break the protocol". McEnroe would have said: “Margaret Court is currently a ventriloquist who uses the Bible as an excuse to say what she wants. Tennis Australia is faced with a dilemma: what are they going to do with this crazy aunt?"
Thursday will see the big match between Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, first of the two men's singles semi-finals. There will also be the women's singles semifinals: Ashleigh Barty vs. Sofia Kenin and Simona Halep vs. Garbine Muguruza.
