Australian Open records: from Margaret Smith to Novak Djokovic

From Margaret Smith and Roy Emerson to Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer: all the main numbers and records of the Australian Open, the first seasonal Slam.

About men's record, Novak Djokovic holds the record of men's singles titles (7: 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2019), while Roy Emerson holds the record of consecutively titles won (5, from 1963 to 1967). Adrian Quist holds the record of titles in men's doubles (10: 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1940, 1946, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950), while Harry Hopman and Colin Long are the ones who hold the record of titles won by a man in mixed doubles (4, Hopman in 1930, 1936, 1937, 1939, Long in 1940, 1946, 1947, 1948). With 13 titles (3 in the men's singles, 10 in the men's doubles), Adrian Quist is the most successful man in the history of the Australian Open.

About women's record, Margaret Smith holds the women's singles record (11 titles: 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1973); Smith also holds the record for consecutively titles won (7: 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966).

With 20 titles (6 in women's singles, 10 in women's doubles and 4 in mixed doubles) Nancye Wynne Bolton is the most successful woman and the most successful tennis player ever in the history of the Australian Open.

About numbers: Ken Rosewall is the youngest player to won the men's singles (in 1952, at 18 years-old and 2 months), while Martina Hingis is the youngest player to won the women's singles (in 1997 at 16 years-old and 4 months). Ken Rosewall is also the oldest player to won the men's singles (in 1972 at 38 years-old and 8 months), while Thelma Coyne Long is the oldest player twon the women's doubles (in 1954 at 35 years-old and 8 months).

Horace Rice is the oldest tennis player ever to won a title (the men's doubles of 1923 at 52 years-old), while Mirjana Lučić-Baroni is the youngest player ever to have won a title (the women's doubles of 1998, at 15 years-old and 10 months).
