Roberto Bautista Agut: Qualifying for ATP Finals will be my goal until I retire
World No. 10 Roberto Bautista Agut says qualifying for the Nitto ATP Finals will be his goal until he retires but insists even if he never qualifies for the prestigious event he will still be happy with his achievements.
Bautista Agut, who enjoyed his best season on the Tour in 2019, made his maiden Grand Slam semifinal at Wimbledon and broke into the top-10 for the first time in his career.
After falling just short of qualifying for the ATP Finals, the 31-year-old Spaniard accepted to be an alternate in London but didn't get a chance to make his debut at The O2 Arena as there were no player withdrawals.
Last year, if I’d won the match against [Matteo] Berrettini in Shanghai, I would possibly have been at the Nitto ATP Finals. I was on the verge... It will be a goal until I retire. My goal at the start of the season is to try and always reach 2,000 points, and from there see how the year goes. In 2020 it will be the same, but without being obsessed about results. I’m 31 and I’ve had a very good career, no matter what happens," Bautista Agut told the ATP Cup.
