Stan Wawrinka: I know how well Alexander Zverev can play
Three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka insisted he expected a very tough contest against No. 7 seed Alexander Zverev at the Australian Open.
Zverev, an 11-time ATP champion, came from a set down to beat No. 15 seed Wawrinka 1-6 6-3 6-4 6-2 and reach his maiden Grand Slam semifinal at Melbourne Park.
Former world No. 3 Wawrinka was dominant at the beginning of the match as he broke Zverev twice and never faced a break point in the first set to easily win the opener.
However, a bad start to the match didn't affect Zverev at all as he broke Wawrinka five times and lost his serve only once in the rest of the match to complete a comeback win in four sets.
Zverev, 22, now owns a 3-0 head-to-head record against 34-year-old Wawrinka.
"I know how well he (Zverev) can play,” Wawrinka told reporters after the match, per the ATP Tour. “For sure, he had some trouble with his serve before this tournament… The two times I played him, he was serving unbelievable and I had some trouble to break him. I know how well he can serve. Today, he was putting a lot of pressure with his serve."
