Caroline Wozniacki's Farewell Exhibition Match Gets 1,000 More Seats
Organizers of Caroline Wozniacki's farewell match in Denmark 'The Final One' scheduled for May 18 at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen where she will take on 23 time Grand Slam champion and close friend Serena Williams have managed to create a workaround solution for extra seating at the event, after more than 10,000 fans put their names on the waiting list once the event was sold out, according to Ekstra Bladet. The original capacity of the arena is 12,000 spectators.
Mads Frederiksen, director of Sports Group, which is the group behind the event, commented, "We have 10,000 people on a waiting list, which is fantastic and a testament to how popular Caroline is in Denmark. But now we have closed it. We have been trying for months to find some solutions, and now the people of Royal Arena have found a grandstand in Germany, which can be brought here and put up with space for another 1,000 spectators. This means that the first 1,000 on the waiting list will now receive an email stating that they can buy tickets, but then we probably can't do more either. This means that the arena is going to be absolutely beautiful because it is an end stand, and now we get spectators on all four sides of the track. In doing so, we create a more closed space around the court and the match'"
Wozniacki played her final professional match on the tour at the Australian Open in January where she was beaten in the third round. The Dane has won 30 WTA titles in her career including the 2018 Australian Open and was No. 1 in the world for 71 weeks.
