Delray Beach Director confident Kei Nishikori will return to event in future

Delray Beach Open Tournament Director Mark Baron has nothing but good to say of Kei Nishikori as he is confident that the Japanese will return to the event in the future. 

Nishikori, ranked at No. 26 in the world, won't be opening his 2020 season in Delray Beach as he is still recovering from the elbow surgery he underwent in October. 

Former world No. 4 Nishikori, who has made five appearances in Delray Beach throughout his career, had been expected to play at the event for the first time since 2014. 

The 30-year-old Japanese claimed his maiden ATP title at the Delray Beach event in 2008 when he won a total of eight matches to win it all as a qualifier. 

"Kei is such a tremendous competitor, I know we’ll see him back in Delray Beach. We’re all rooting for his health and return in top form,” Tournament Director Mark Baron said, per the tournament's website. “With such a deep field, this gives us a chance to feature one of our young fan-favorite Americans and we’re glad to be able to promote Reilly to the Super Tuesday bill. This will be such a fantastic day and night for fans."
