Felix Auger-Aliassime draws positives from his runner-up finish in Rotterdam

Rising Canadian star Felix Auger-Aliassime drew positives from his Rotterdam campaign after falling just short of winning his maiden ATP title.

Auger-Aliassime, ranked at No. 21 in the world, couldn't pull of a surprise win over third-seeded Gael Monfils as the in-form Frenchman won 6-2 6-4.

Monfils, who won it all in Montpellier a week ago, broke the Canadian twice in each set en route to claiming back-to-back titles for the first time in his career.

Auger-Aliassime, 19, dropped just one set en route to becoming the first Canadian to make the Rotterdam final but he couldn't deliver his best tennis when it mattered most.

"The week has been good, encouraging,” Auger-Aliassime said, per the ATP Tour. “It is the start of the season and the second month I’ve played. It is encouraging for what is next but I will have to keep working well, doing the adjustments I need to do and keep believing, keep pushing to give myself chances to play matches like these.”

The 19-year-old Canadian has now played four ATP finals and ended runner-up on each occasion.
