Filmmaker Spike Lee follows Rafael Nadal and Nick Kyrgios’ homages to Kobe Bryant

In the tense Australian Open clash between Rafael Nadal and Nick Kyrgios, both players have honored the death of Kobe Bryant, each with a different piece of clothing. Nadal wore a Lakers cap while the Aussie entered the court with a basketball shirt, but someone took it up a notch at the 92nd Academy Awards on Sunday.

World-class filmmaker Spike Lee sported a custom Lakers style suit emblazoned with Kobe Bryant’s significant number of 24 as a tribute to the death that sorrowed an entire globe. Spike was a friend of Bryant and a fan of the NBA.

 "Tribute, honor, homage ... we all miss him,” Lee said on the red carpet before the awarding ceremony.

Film director Spike Lee is best known for movies like ‘She’s Gotta Have It’, ‘He Got Game’ and ‘Inside Man’.

Talking about Oscars, Kobe Bryant was no stranger to this world. The American NBA star even won one of the golden statuettes in 2018 for his animated short called ‘Dear Basketball’. His creation was inspired by the letter — through which he announced his retirement — he wrote to The Players’ Tribune in 2015.

Getting back to the tennis world, Rafael Nadal and Nick Kyrgios were both heavily affected by the death of the iconic basketball player.

“It’s one of these days you want to forget but Kobe Bryant will be in our hearts for the rest of our lives,” said Rafael Nadal after he won the match against Kyrgios.
