Gael Monfils: Winning back-to-back titles for first time in my career would be huge
World No. 9 Gael Monfils will be extremely motivated to deliver his best performance in the Rotterdam final as he admits it would be huge for him to win back-to-back titles.
Monfils, seeded at No. 3, saw off world No. 39 Filip Krajinovic 6-4 7-6 (5) to reach back-to-back Rotterdam finals and come a win away from defending is title at the tournament.
The 33-year-old Frenchman won his first title of the 2020 season last week in front of his home fans after beating Canadian Vasek Pospisil in the Montpellier final.
"It would be great [to win this title again]. It would be, for me, unbelievable. It would be the first time to win two titles in a row and actually even the first time to win two titles in the same season, so it would be huge for me," Monfils said, per the ATP Tour.
Monfils' opponent in the final will be rising Canadian star Felix Auger-Aliassime, who will be aiming to win his maiden ATP title this Sunday in Rotterdam.
"[Felix] is a great guy. A humble guy. Very strong… He is a very talented guy. Definitely, I expect a tough match, but a cool match because I think we might see him for a long time, definitely in this part of a tournament on this stage," Monfils said of Auger-Aliassime ahead of the final.
