Judy Murray Foundation to Host Free Tennis Session in Clydebank
The Judy Murray Foundation will host a session introducing tennis to the residents of Clydebank next week.
The Foundation has been established by Judy Murray OBE, the mother of former World No. 1 singles player Andy Murray and former World No. 1 doubles player Jamie Murray.
The free introduction tennis session will take place at Centre81 on Thursday, February 20, from 10.30am to noon, according to Clydebank Post.
Gil Paterson, MSP for Clydebank, said: “Tennis is a sport for everyone, and this is a great opportunity for people across Clydebank to take the first steps in learning a new activity. I applaud the work of the Judy Murray Foundation, because disadvantaged communities may not have had access or the opportunities to take up tennis like this.”
Besides being the coach to her sons during their formative years, Judy Murray has also coached many players at regional and national level under the auspices of the British tennis governing body, the Lawn Tennis Association. She was also elected to lead the British Fed Cup team as their captain at the end of 2011 and remained the captain till March 2016.
She was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2017 Birthday Honours for services to tennis, women in sport, and charity and is also a trustee of the Judy Murray Foundation, a registered charity under Scottish law, with the object of improving access to tennis opportunities across Scotland.
