Kim Clijsters submits 6 doping tests before comeback

Former World No.1 Kim Clijsters recently made a third comeback to professional tennis, this time 7 years after playing her last professional match.

To make this comeback possible, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) did all what they could to make sure Clijsters’ comeback was a fair and square one. The Belgian had to submit six doping tests before the ITF approved her comeback for tournament tennis.

Clijsters announced that she would be making a comeback to professional tennis last September and since then, she has been subject to the same rules and measures as the other top-level players. Among other things, this meant that she has been extensively tested for doping.

Official documents from the ITF show that the 36-year-old Belgian has given doping tests six times before her comeback could be approved. This is was written by news agency AFP.

She played the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship and bowed out in the opening round to Garbine Muguruza in straight sets 2-6, 6-7. Clijsters previously was away from tennis between 2007-2009 and made an impressive comeback, winning the US Open by taking out Caroline Wozniacki in the finals.

She has 41 WTA Titles to her name which includes 4 grand slam tournaments.
