Netflix to come out with Naomi Osaka Documentary series

Japanese breakout tennis star Naomi Osaka is subject to a documentary series on Netflix, which is set to be directed by Garrett Bradley. Netflix is yet to disclose a title for the series and the date of its release.

The series is set to be directed in association with Uninterrupted, an athlete empowerment brand founded by LeBron James and Maverick Carter and produced by Endeavor Content-owned Film 45.

Osaka became the first Asian player to reach the top of the WTA or ATP Rankings following her first Grand Slam win, the US Open in 2018 and then backing it with the Australian Open Title in 2019.

With a Japanese mother and a Haitian father, Osaka emigrated from Japan to the U.S. at a very young age. The series will highlight the professional pressure, frantic travel schedule and Osaka’s self-realization journey. The documentary will also see her to Japan to understand her connections with the country she represents, and the reflections of her multi-cultural identity.

“To be able to tell my story and let people in during this big year, working with a team that really understands me, has been a rewarding experience. It won’t look like a traditional sports documentary, and I’m so excited to share it with everyone,” said Osaka in a prepared statement.
