Bianca Andreescu may very well defend her Indian Wells title
"I'm very sad...I won't be able to compete in the Dubai Duty Free Tennis...next week," Bianca Andreescu has said so forlornly. She hasn't played since the injury in October at the WTA Finals. "My knee twisted, I heard a crack...It's cracking every time I walk and it friggin' hurts," she said to her coach Sylvain Bruneau during a break in the first set against Karolina Pliskova.
Andreescu hasn't been seen on court again other than sitting out of the Canadian Fed Cup. Many are beginning to feel that it's natural to have a long rehab due to slight setbacks. While some may be second guessing that surgery may be on the forefront. Andreescu clarifed and eased everyone's mind saying "Well, I don't need surgery, so I wouldn't say it's very bad."
The tennis community is missing the spirit of Bianca Andreescu really bad but knowing the consequences of her returning too soon could have an adverse effect. "I don't want to take any risk to re-injure my knee," the Canadian had said truthfully. At this point she is riding between a 'rock and a hard place'. She wants to return but not so fast. Andreescu doesn't hesitate in saying about her condition that "I'm not at 100 percent yet..." She must be going through unsettling times of wanting to get on the court but not wantng to re-hurt herself either. There also is the chance of not getting re-injred but not playing well either. There's no guarantees.
Bianca Andreescu knows the power of patience, she has no other choice. But when the injured knee has healed and she gets the 'green light' to go back out on court, she will be there. But she confesses and admits that "I'm just rying to rehab as much as possible and stay positive as I can." Andreescu had to miss the Australian Open, sat out the Canadian Fed Cup and now has to give the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships a miss. On February 23rd starts the Qatar Total Open. This is the next tournament the Canadian is scheduled to participate in. The worst scenario is if she won't be able to play before Indian Wells. She just may get a chance to defend her title and win another. It's all up in the air for Bianca Andreescu and her fans. It's definitely not a matter of what tournament she'll show up in, but when it will all evolve.
