Proceeds from Inauguration of New Philippe-Chatrier Courts to go to Charity

The French Tennis Federation – Federation Francaise de Tennis – has committed all proceeds from the New Philippe-Chatrier Courts at Roland Garros inauguration event for a charity, according to Inside Sport.

There is a new roof that has been installed on the Philippe-Chatrier Courts that covers one hectare of area and will be inaugurated on Saturday night.  The federation has organized a sound and light show titled “Terre de rencontres’’ which will celebrate the completion of the roof on the court - which is the first court to get a roof at Roland Garros. Celebrities from the world of tennis and international DJs will be part of the event and various surprises are also on the agenda.

The tickets for the event the event in Paris have been priced at €225. All the benefits from the evening will be allocated to the FFT Foundation which sponsors several educational, cultural, social and sporting projects.

The Roland Garros event is scheduled to be held from May 18 to June 7 this year. Last year's event was won by Spain's Rafael Nadal on the men's side and Ashleigh Barty on the women's side. Nadal won the event for a record 12th time in his career while it was the first Grand Slam for the Australian Barty. Both players are set to return this year to defend their titles.

According to the tournament website, Philippe-Chatrier court’s retractable roof can be closed in around fifteen minutes. The project to transform the legendary court was completed on 5th February 2020, a month ahead of schedule.
