Qualifier Tommy Paul reflects on shock Alexander Zverev win in Acapulco

Qualifier Tommy Paul admitted that a shock Alexander Zverev win "meant a lot" to him. 

Paul, who is enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 66 in the world, beat No. 2 seed Zverev 6-3 6-4 to reach the Acapulco quarterfinal. 

It was the first meeting between rising American star Paul and world No. 7 Zverev.

"It meant a lot. I was really excited to get out there and play. He put me under pressure in the first game and then from there, I played well for the rest of the match," Paul said after clinching the biggest win of his career, via the ATP Tour.

Paul took advantage of Zverev struggling on his serve early on in the match as the American got off to a quick 3-0 first-set lead.

Paul, 22, saved four break points in the seventh game before converting his first set point two games later. 

The American failed to convert any of his two consecutive break points in the seventh game of the second set but kept his focus as he claimed the key break two games later. 

Paul then routinely served out for the match to set up a meeting against his fellow compatriot John Isner.
