Simona Halep, the 28-year-old former No. 1, who had yet to stomach a derisive defeat against the then-unseeded Muguruza in the Australian Open 2020 semi-final in straight sets, would be playing her first tournament in the second month of 2020 in Dubai where she could again meet the Spanish-Venezuelan 32nd Seed Gabine Muguruza. 

As a matter of fact, Gabine Muguruza entrance in to the Dubai Tournament came as a surprise as organizers allowed a wild card entry for the unwavering Spaniard in the WTA tournament which would take place between February 17th to 22nd.
