Stefanos Tsitsipas: I knew I'd have to fight and be dynamic against Vasek Pospisil
No. 2 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas said he came into his Marseille quarterfinal knowing that he would have to be at his best against in-form Vasek Pospisil.
Tsitsipas, the 2019 Marseille champion, beat Pospisil 7-5 6-3 to come two wins away from defending his title at the tournament.
Pospisil, who ended runner-up in Montpellier two weeks ago, was aiming to make his second final in France this week but the Greek had other plans.
"It wasn’t easy, I knew I’d have to fight and be dynamic,” Tsitsipas said, per the ATP Tour. “He (Pospisil) plays a very aggressive brand of tennis, so every point has to be treated respectfully. I played with passion and patience, and my fighting spirit, when I’m in the right zone, means good things can happen."
World No. 6 Tsitsipas broke Pospisil once in the first set, twice in the second set and never faced a break point to set up a semifinal clash against Alexander Bublik.
It was the first meeting between 21-year-old Tsitsipas and 29-year-old Pospisil.
