Kevin Anderson undergoes another surgery: It's beyond frustrating and disappointing
Former world No. 5 Kevin Anderson has suffered another setback as the South-African underwent a surgery this past Wednesday to repair his damaged right knee.
After a frustrating 2019 season -- which saw Anderson play only five events -- the 33-year-old hoped he would stay healthy this year and have a bounce back season.
2018 Wimbledon runner-up Anderson played his last tournament of 2019 at The Championships, before undergoing a season-ending knee surgery in September.
Just before the start of the 2020 season, Anderson picked up another knee injury -- tried to play through it -- but unsuccessfully as he lost in the Australian Open second round before falling short in the New York Open first round.
"Midway through December last year, during my offseason training, I injured my right knee. I tried to play push through both in training and on the match court but, but it didn't get better," world No. 121 Anderson said in a statement posted on his Twitter account.
"I had scans done in Australia and they unfortunately showed that I had suffered a medial meniscus tear. After consulting with medical professionals and my team we decided that having surgery was the best way forward. I had the procedure done on Wednesday.
"It is beyond difficult and frustrating to have to deal with this after the setbacks I had last year. But I know it is the right decision for me to get back to where I want to and rest assured I will do everything in my power to get there."
